Cannabinoid Properties & Benefits

CBD (cannabidiol)

  • Non-psychoactive

  • Helps to reduce THC “high”

  • CBD alone is NOT recommended for sleep, unless at higher doses (30mg or higher). It can help a person sleep if they suffer from anxiety or chronic pain.

  • Medicinal benefits: reduces stress, anti-inflammatory, inhibits cancer cell growth, anti-bacterial, anti-nausea, anti-epileptic,

  • Uses: anxiety, depression, chronic pain, cancer, seizures, skin rashes

THC (Delta-9 Tetrahydrocannabinol)

  • Main psychoactive compound in the cannabis plant

  • THC is therapeutic when properly used as a medicine

  • Medicinal benefits: anti-nausea, kills cancer cells, reduces pain, sleep aid, stimulates appetite, anti-convulsant, anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant

  • Uses: cancer treatment, insomnia, PTSD, treats chemo side effects, chronic pain, seizures

Delta-8 THC

  • Similar to Delta-9, with slightly different compound structure

  • Occurs naturally when Delta-9 starts to degrade/oxidize

  • Found to be 10% less sedative/psychoactive than Delta-9

  • Potentially more therapeutic properties than Delta-9, with much less of a high

  • Medicinal benefits: anti-nausea (200% more effective than Delta-9), stimulates appetite, reduces brain inflammation

  • Uses: stroke victims, cancer, chronic pain

THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid)

  • Non-psychoactive

  • It’s the un-activated form of THC

  • Medicinal benefits: anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, inhibits cancer cell growth, anti-spasmodic

  • Uses: chronic pain, stomach pain/irregularity, cancer, muscle spasms

CBN (cannabinol)

  • Produced when THC degrades or oxidizes

  • Mildly psychoactive (about 10% the potency of THC)

  • Can give a sleepy or “couch-lock” effect

  • 5mg of CBN is equivalent to 10mg of valium

  • Medicinal benefits: Anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, appetite stimulant, pain reduction

  • Uses: Insomnia, glaucoma, cancer, epilepsy,

CBG (cannabigerol)

  • This cannabinoid creates THC and CBD, as well as other cannabinoids

  • Non-psychoactive

  • Medicinal benefits: stimulates bone growth and healing, slows tumor growth, reduces pressure behind eyes, anti-inflammation, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial

  • Uses: Glaucoma, chronic pain, bone fractures, depression

  • Can be very similar to CBD effects. It can be a good option for people already familiar with CBD but wanting to try something different.

THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin)

  • Non-psychoactive

  • Not too much research has been done yet on THCv, but more is happening based on successful uses so far.

  • Medicinal benefits: reduces appetite, anti-epileptic, promotes bone growth, reduces stress, regulates blood sugar levels

  • Uses: PTSD, weight loss, osteoporosis, diabetes
